The Annamaria Saritelli-DiPanni Bel Canto Vocal scholarship was established in 1988 by soprano Annamaria Saritelli-DiPanni as a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organiztion under Federal guidelines 501C(3), to provide scholarship to young American opera singers between the ages of 21 to 36 who are actively seeking careers in opera performance. For 25 years, through our educational program, we sought out the very best singers in the country and -in our preliminary auditions in such venues as University of Southern California in Los Angeles, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, University of Texas in Austin, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and Rhode Island College in Providence, Rhode Island, held annually in December.

Eight finalists were selected each year to compete in the Finals Concert, a black-tie event, which was held in a charming and intimate concert hall before an audience of invited guests and a panel of world-renowned judges from the world of opera. The finalists were treated to an all-expense trip to Providence for this Gala concert. Over $15,000 in scholarships were awarded annually.

In 2013, our format changed to an "all-on-line" competition, with applicants submitting DVDs and other supporting materials to our audition panel. Scholarships were awarded on the basis of merit and the number and amount of scholarship varied according to the number of applicants and the overall quality of the submissions.

The Annamaria Saritelli-DiPanni Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship is geared to young artists, most of whom have completed their formal academic studies and who are on the verge of careers, careers that could often founder for lack of funds for private study. Very often, it is those extra private lessons or coaching sessions the scholarships provide that can smooth the way to a professional performance career in the field of opera.

The list of our former winners who have gone on to rewarding careers is impressive (see our website at Many are singing in the great opera houses all over the world. The Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship is thus committed to forwarding the tradition of bel canto, "beautiful singing", and insuring that future generations will enjoy these wonderful voices.
